Fourth Harold & Kumar Film in Development With John Cho and Kal Penn Returning

The Harold & Kumar comedy franchise is expanding with a brand-new entry on the horizon. Producer Greg Shapiro announced at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival on Tuesday, July 7, that a fourth film is currently in active development.
"I made a series of movies called Harold & Kumar. The first one was Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, and we made three, but we're actually doing the fourth one pretty soon," Shapiro revealed at the festival, according to Variety.
The production is currently in the screenplay stage, with the creative team working to bring the project together. "We're working on the screenplay right now for the next Harold & Kumar movie, but everybody's back, the actors, the writers … the writers are directing, and hopefully we should be shooting it soon, you know, they're just … it's like any movie, it all has to come together in the right way," Shapiro explained.
John Cho and Kal Penn will reprise their lead roles in the new installment. Behind the camera, original franchise writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are stepping into the director's chair while also penning the screenplay alongside Josh Heald.
The announcement comes after reports emerged last summer about the creative team's involvement in a new franchise entry. The original Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle spawned two sequels: 2008's Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and 2011's A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.
Further details about casting and the film's release date are expected to be shared as production moves forward.
