Savannah Guthrie Takes Assignment Away From 'Today' Desk

Savannah Guthrie didn't appear on the Wednesday, June 17 broadcast of Today.

The 54-year-old morning show co-host is currently handling an assignment, Craig Melvin announced to viewers. Sheinelle Jones filled the vacant chair during the episode.

Guthrie made her return to the program in April following an extended absence that began when her mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing on February 1. The search for Nancy has now stretched beyond 100 days.

For her comeback, the co-host selected a bright yellow dress and expressed her relief at being back on set, saying, "It is good to be home." Melvin warmly welcomed her return, echoing her sentiment before the two moved into covering the day's news stories.

Prior to that April return, Guthrie had made two brief appearances at the Today studios—once to spend time with colleagues and again for a sit-down conversation about her mother's disappearance. However, April marked her first full working day since Nancy went missing.

On Easter Sunday, April 5, the day before her return, Guthrie posted an emotional update on social media.
