Hilary Duff Opens Up About Breaking Up Twice With Matthew Koma Before Marriage and Kids

Hilary Duff recently shared candid details about her unconventional path to marriage with Matthew Koma during an interview on the SiriusXM podcast The Morgan Stewart Show, which aired ahead of her Small Stage Series concert on May 14th.

The 38-year-old actress and "Future Tripping" singer opened up about the couple's relationship history, confirming they separated twice before tying the knot. When asked about the breakups, Duff acknowledged the timeline: "The first time, I feel like maybe he would be like, 'No, that's not correct.' But he remembers things a little bit better than I do. I feel like maybe we were broken up for like a year and then the second time we were broken up for like 6 months."

Following their second reconciliation, Duff and Koma made a quick decision to start a family. "We were like, 'We should have a baby.' Which is psycho, absolutely psycho. Like three weeks later, I think I was pregnant with Banks," she recalled. The couple welcomed their daughter and subsequently got married, with Banks playing a memorable role in the ceremony. "She walked me down the aisle… It was really, really fun and cute. And like Luca walked Matt down the aisle, which was, I would recommend it to people," Duff said.

During their separation period, Duff noted that she and Koma maintained minimal contact, though the musician would occasionally reach out through Words With Friends. "He'd always kick my ass, too, which was so annoying," she joked.

Duff and Koma are approaching seven years of marriage and share three daughters: Banks, 7, Mae, 5, and Townes, 2. Duff is also mother to 14-year-old son Luca from her previous marriage to Mike Comrie.

The entertainer recently completed another run of performances in Las Vegas as part of her Small Rooms, Big Nerves tour before launching her worldwide The Lucky Me Tour this summer.
