Heidi Klum's Met Gala 2026 Living Sculpture: Inside the Design

Heidi Klum arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, May 4, fully committed to the 2026 Met Gala theme with a breathtaking custom creation that positioned her as a work of art itself.
The supermodel's striking ensemble came courtesy of designer Mike Marino, who crafted a look intended to embody a living sculpture. According to the design notes, the outfit examines "the relationship between the body and art in a modern, wearable way."
Marino drew inspiration from revered classical sculptures to realize the vision. The Veiled Christ by Giuseppe Sammartino and the Veiled Vestal by Raffaele Monti both influenced the aesthetic direction of the piece.
To achieve the appearance of marble while maintaining wearability, the designer employed latex and spandex—materials chosen specifically to capture the texture and finish of the classical stone medium. The combination created an illusion of carved sculpture while allowing Klum to move freely throughout the evening's festivities.
The result was a showstopping moment that demonstrated how contemporary fashion can engage with art history in unexpected and innovative ways.
