Inde Navarrette Steps Back From Social Media Following Breakout Success in Obsession

The 25-year-old breakout star of the indie horror sensation Obsession is taking a measured approach to the flood of online attention that has accompanied her acclaimed performance.
Inde Navarrette, who plays Nikki in the runaway hit film, revealed that she and her mother are deliberately restricting her exposure to social media feedback during this pivotal moment in her career. "We're limiting the amount of things that I'm allowed to see just for right now, because it's a beginning of a new process and a new step in my career and I really want to make sure that I'm protecting myself first, while also giving thanks to everybody who loves the movie," she told People.
Her approach to online interaction is highly selective. Rather than scrolling through feeds, Navarrette only engages with content that comes directly through her family members or professional team. She also prioritizes face-to-face connections, explaining that meeting supporters in person allows her to "physically see that person, receive what they're saying and to say 'thank you' to them directly."
The actress reflected on the creative dedication she brought to her role, citing a meaningful mantra that guided her performance. "There's this quote: 'To get something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done,'" she shared with the publication. "I knew that I wanted to break out of the past roles that I had been doing. I knew I was going to do everything humanly possible and I was going to have so much fun while doing it because there's just so many aspects to being a person and being a girl and everything that you don't get to show."
The critical response to Navarrette's work has been extraordinary. Multiple outlets have championed her performance as worthy of major awards consideration, with some calling it "genuinely Oscar worthy."
Obsession itself continues to break records. The Curry Barker-directed film made history on May 18 by becoming the lowest-budget movie to reach the number-one spot at the box office in 17 years, a distinction last held by 2009's Paranormal Activity.
