Live-Action 'Gundam' Film Rolls with Star-Studded Cast; Filming Underway in Australia

Legendary Entertainment and Netflix have officially launched production on their live-action take of the legendary Gundam franchise, bringing a fresh ensemble cast to the project alongside previously confirmed leads Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo.

The film's expanded roster features Jackson White (Tell Me Lies), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus, Harry Potter, The Death of Stalin), Javon 'Wanna' Walton (Euphoria), Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool & Wolverine), Nonso Anozie (Sweet Tooth), Michael Mando (Better Call Saul), Oleksandr Rudynskyi (The Agency), Ida Brooke (Dune: Part Three), and Gemma Chua-Tran (Heartbreak High).

The production is currently taking place in Queensland, Australia, with the completed film set to debut on Netflix.

According to the official description, the story centers on rival mech pilots engaged in opposing forces throughout a protracted conflict spanning decades between Earth and its former space colonies. As loyalties shift and mysterious dangers emerge, the characters find themselves drawn into a desperate struggle across the galaxy with humanity's future hanging in the balance. The project promises sweeping robot battles combined with character-driven storytelling set against an epic cinematic backdrop.

The Gundam franchise has been a cornerstone of the mecha science fiction genre for more than 47 years, spawning an expansive multimedia empire centered on colossal mechanical robots. This adaptation marks the first time the beloved property is being brought to screen as a live-action feature film, representing a significant expansion of the franchise into Hollywood.
