Janelle Monae, Tessa Thompson Lead Star-Studded 'Is God Is' New York Premiere
Stars gathered at Brooklyn Academy of Music on Monday evening for the New York premiere of the psychological thriller "Is God Is."
Janelle Monae and Kara Young headline the cast, alongside Mallori Johnson, Erika Alexander, Mykelti Williamson, Josiah Cross, Vivica A. Fox, and Sterling K. Brown. Tessa Thompson serves as a producer on the project.
The film, directed and written by Aleshea Harris and based on her original play, follows twin sisters bearing severe burn scars as they navigate a dark family secret. According to the synopsis, their bedridden mother orders them to confront the abusive father responsible for their injuries, forcing them to choose between vengeance and forgiveness.
On the red carpet, Monae made a statement in an Abodi Transylvania Bow Dress Artefact 12, accessorized with a Castle Bag. Young opted for a LaQuan Smith gown paired with Jimmy Choo footwear, a Judith Leiber clutch, and Alexis Bittar hair pieces.
The film arrives in theaters on May 15. Thompson, who recently made her Broadway debut in "The Fear of 13" alongside Adrien Brody, continues to expand her production portfolio. Monae, meanwhile, recently surprised audiences with an unexpected performance during PinkPantheress' set at Coachella.
