Jason Statham and David Ayer Reunite for Action Thriller 'John Doe'

April 27, 2026

Jason Statham and director David Ayer are joining forces once again, this time on the action-thriller John Doe.

The 58-year-old actor will headline the film as the title character, with Ayer behind the camera and Zak Penn penning the screenplay. This marks the third collaboration between Statham and Ayer, following their previous work together on The Beekeeper and A Working Man.

The film centers on a protagonist stripped of identity—no memory, no past, and no name—whose only anchor to his former life is the face of a woman named Eliza. As fragments of his identity begin surfacing, he learns he was conditioned to carry out a dangerous assignment that remains underway. Pursued by the very operatives who trained him, the character must navigate a critical crossroads: complete the mission or safeguard the emotional connection that reminds him of his humanity.

Statham is producing alongside Penn and Paul Schiff.

"We're thrilled to be reuniting Jason and David on John Doe, powered by Zak Penn's sharp, propulsive script. With wildly inventive action and modern themes that will resonate with a global audience, this takes the Statham/Ayer collaboration to a new level," said Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman.

Black Bear's president John Friedberg added his enthusiasm for the pairing: "Jason is a singular talent in the action genre who consistently delivers for his audience. David has also firmly established himself as one of the top action directors working today. Their previous collaborations rank among the most successful independent action movies in recent years, and we are thrilled to deliver their third movie together in John Doe."
