Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About Breakups as 'Launchpads' for Personal Growth

Jennifer Lopez is reframing how we think about the end of relationships.
During an appearance on the Tuesday, June 30 episode of the internet talk show Subway Takes, hosted by Kareem Rahma, the 56-year-old entertainer and actress offered her candid take on romantic separations.
"Breakups are not a failure," Lopez explained. "I honestly feel like it's a launchpad into your next best self. We should have a party when we break up. People should say, 'You broke up? Congratulations.' Because one, you made a decision. Two, it was probably the best thing for everybody."
The star of The Office Romance went further, characterizing those who end relationships as the true victors in the situation. By contrast, she described those who repeatedly hurt others as the actual losers in the dynamic.
Lopez attributed much of her personal evolution to heartbreak across various life domains. "The biggest growth spurts I've had emotionally, mentally, psychologically have always come from a heartbreak," she shared. "And that's not just in romantic relationships, that's in work heartbreaks, all of it. It's the only time you dig. You're like, 'What the f–k happened? How do I do this? Why do I keep doing this? Or why didn't that happen? What could I have done better?' You change yourself."
The remarks come as Lopez's past relationships continue to draw public interest, including her marriage to Marc Anthony, which lasted from 2004 to 2014.
