Ronnie Ortiz-Magro is using his platform to discuss mental health awareness after a recent video sparked widespread concern among fans.

The 40-year-old Jersey Shore cast member appeared to struggle during a recent interview segment with his co-stars, with footage showing him having difficulty keeping his eyes open and appearing to doze off as cast mate Deena Nicole Cortese was speaking. The clip drew immediate attention given Ortiz-Magro's documented past struggles with substance abuse.

On Monday, May 4, Ortiz-Magro took to Instagram Stories to share several messages aligned with Mental Health Awareness Month. One post featured a reflection on depression, reading: "High functioning depressions is waking up each day with a face that works but a heart that doesn't, doing everything you're supposed to do while feeling nothing inside, and most days it's like being trapped in your own life, when every part of you wants to stop."

He also shared a graphic highlighting that one in four people experience some form of mental illness annually, emphasizing that "not all pain is physical and not all wounds are visible," while calling for people to "break the silence" and "break the stigma."

The reality star posted a video featuring NBA player Kyrie Irving discussing the importance of authenticity. In the clip, Irving stated: "It's OK to be human. Like, I don't have to be perfect for anyone here nor do I have to be perfect for the public. So I'm not here to dispel any perception. I'm just here to be myself."

Accompanying the Irving video, Ortiz-Magro wrote that "the disease doesn't discriminate" across categories including "famous, athletes, single parents."

In another post, he shared educational information distinguishing between various mental health conditions, noting that depression extends beyond sadness, anxiety goes deeper than worry, and that addiction should not be dismissed as simply "a choice."

His co-star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino has already publicly responded to the concerning video.
