Late-Night Hosts Unite on Colbert's Final Episode, Kimmel Questions Fan Response to Network Dispute

Jimmy Kimmel made a memorable appearance on Stephen Colbert's program Monday evening, arriving alongside fellow late-night personalities to mark one of Colbert's final broadcasts before The Late Show concludes on May 21.
The 58-year-old host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! shared the stage with Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, John Oliver, and Seth Meyers—members of the "Strike Force Five" podcast collective. During their conversation, Kimmel brought up his own recent situation when ABC temporarily pulled his show following a joke he delivered about Charlie Kirk's assassination.
Speaking to the assembled group, Kimmel defended the continued relevance of late-night television, pointing out that while individual shows may draw smaller audiences than in the Johnny Carson era, the collective viewership across multiple programs remains substantial. He noted that audiences now engage with late-night content through various platforms, including YouTube, yet continue tuning in to these shows.
Kimmel then drew a direct parallel to Colbert's circumstances, referencing the public response when he faced his temporary removal. "When I got knocked off the air for a few days, people canceled Disney+," Kimmel said. "Why aren't you people canceling Paramount+?" He followed the question with a quip suggesting the answer might be that viewers never subscribed to the service in the first place.
While some fans have indicated they would consider canceling their Paramount+ subscriptions, the momentum behind such efforts has not matched the intensity seen during Kimmel's situation.
Oliver weighed in with commentary about the pending Paramount and Warner Bros. merger, while Fallon characterized Colbert's departure as "odd," expressing regret about the shortened timeline. "It's a bummer, because I wanted to do this longer with you," Fallon remarked.
Oliver responded with skepticism, dismissing Fallon's remarks as typical network television language masking deeper issues.
