Jodie Sweetin Opens Up About Her Connection to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen After Full House

April 26, 2026

Jodie Sweetin is reflecting on her bond with Full House castmates Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and where things stand today.

When the beloved ABC comedy debuted in 1987, Jodie was just 5 years old, while the Olsen Twins were only six months old. Speaking on The McBride Rewind Podcast, the now-44-year-old actress described a genuine closeness with Mary-Kate and Ashley, now 39, as the three grew up together throughout the show's eight-season run.

"I loved them," Jodie told host Josh McBride. "I was really close to Ashley and Mary-Kate… I would go to their room and hang out and play with them."

Beyond the soundstage, the connection extended into their personal lives. Jodie recalled how the twins would visit her home and join her family for getaways. "They would come spend the night at my house. They'd come to my cabin on the weekends with my parents and I. We'd go horseback riding. We would go to Disneyland. I mean, I've got pictures of us playing dress up at my house; they're like three, I'm like six, you know, just kid stuff and I loved it."

After the show wrapped in 1995, the Olsen Twins pursued acting in films before stepping away from the industry to build their fashion empire. Jodie, meanwhile, faced personal struggles with substance abuse before achieving sobriety in 2008.

Over the subsequent two decades, the three didn't maintain regular contact as their lives took divergent paths. "People are like, 'Oh, well, do you guys not talk? Is it bad?' They were 8 years old when the show finished. We weren't as close as we were," Jodie explained. She noted that while they'd encounter each other at family gatherings, a natural drift occurred. "They moved to New York and then, you know, got married and were a fashion empire and sort of moved into that world and, you know, so it was like we just sort of drifted apart."

Though Jodie occasionally crossed paths with Mary-Kate and Ashley over the years, a full reunion didn't happen until Bob Saget's passing in 2022 brought the Full House family back together. The experience proved meaningful for Jodie.

"And it was just like it was before," she recalled. "It was normal. We all, you know, spent like four days just constantly together… and it was like nothing had changed."

In the same conversation, Jodie also addressed her evolving dynamic with Candace Cameron Bure, noting their differing political and social viewpoints—with Candace identifying as a conservative Christian while Jodie is a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and reproductive freedom.

"This is just who I am and what I believe, and if that isn't something we share, cool," Jodie said. "I'm not going to change anything. I can still have a relationship with her where I can hug her when I see her. I love her. I don't want bad things to happen to her. I will respect her, and her ability to do whatever."
