Lionsgate has locked in a summer 2027 premiere date for its upcoming Rambo prequel, with Noah Centineo leading the charge into theaters.

The film will debut on June 4, 2027, arriving the weekend following the highly anticipated Star Wars: Starfighter, which stars Ryan Gosling and is helmed by director Shawn Levy. An untitled Paramount project rounds out the limited competition for that same release date.

Centineo carries the picture alongside an ensemble that includes David Harbour, Yao, Jason Tobin, Quincy Isaiah, Jefferson White, and Tayme Thapthimthong. Finnish filmmaker Jamari Helander, known for the action thriller Sisu, takes the director's chair from a script penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.

The prequel ventures back to the origins of the franchise, serving as a backstory to 1982's First Blood. This marks the sixth chapter in the Rambo saga, which has accumulated over $819 million in worldwide box office revenue. The last theatrical installment arrived in 2019 with Rambo: Last Blood, which featured Sylvester Stallone.

James Franco has joined the cast in a supporting capacity, marking a significant return to major studio productions for the actor. His last notable studio role came in 2017's Alien: Covenant. Franco largely retreated from high-profile studio projects following 2018 allegations of sexual misconduct from five women, four of whom had attended an acting school he operated. Since then, he has primarily focused on independent film work, making his involvement in this Rambo project a noteworthy studio comeback.
