Unreleased Comedy Bits From Netflix's Kevin Hart Roast Reveal Edgier Material That Didn't Air

Netflix's "The Roast of Kevin Hart" premiered on May 10, generating immediate conversation around the sharp material delivered at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. The evening featured comedians and celebrities trading blows with Hart and each other throughout the night.
As with most roasts, the final broadcast represents only a fraction of the comedy written for the event. Madison Sinclair, one of the writers who crafted jokes for the various roasters, has pulled back the curtain on material that never made it to air, speaking with Variety about the bits that landed on the cutting-room floor.
The unreleased material reveals some particularly pointed jabs. Several Shane Gillis jokes referenced his military background and personal views. A pair of Tony Hinchcliffe bits played on his opening-act status and relevance.
Draymond Green was the subject of comparisons to other celebrities, while Lizzo drew a reference to her appearance in a 2019 film. Chelsea Handler received a quip about her television career spanning multiple decades.
The lion's share of cut material targeted Hart himself. The unused jokes touched on his public controversies, his various business ventures, his film and television presence, and his personal life. Some referenced his involvement with the Riyadh Comedy Festival, while others made wordplay-based observations about his brand and career choices. One bit humorously suggested Hart's home as a punchline about infidelity.
Sinclair's collection offers viewers a glimpse into the creative process behind the roast and demonstrates how much material gets produced before editors determine what ultimately airs.
