Broadway powerhouse Jordan Roth arrived at the 2026 Met Gala with an avant-garde vision that blurred the line between fashion and fine art. The 50-year-old Tony Award-winning producer graced the Metropolitan Museum of Art's iconic event on Monday, May 4, in New York City, marking his eighth appearance at the prestigious gala.

For the occasion, Roth wore a couture creation by designer Robert Wun that embodied the concept of a living sculpture. The ensemble featured flowing stretch velvet rendered in stone tones, with a molded figure that appears to embrace the wearer—though the silhouette shifts and transforms depending on the viewer's vantage point.

The design process proved meticulous, requiring dozens of preliminary sketches to achieve the precise positioning of the shadowy form. The sculptural element is secured via a three-strap harness at the waist, allowing it to move in concert with the garment itself.

"The ability to really dance together and have a story that evolves was crucial," Roth explained of the piece's interactive nature and how it functions as both sculpture and wearable art.

This year's Met Gala celebrates the museum's Costume Art exhibition, which examines "the centrality of the dressed body" through various depictions and interpretations of the human form in the institution's renowned collection. The dress code theme, "Fashion is Art," set the tone for the evening's most imaginative red-carpet moments.

The gala was co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
