Karol G Delivers Standout Performance and Wins Big at 2026 AMAs

Karol G commanded the spotlight at the 2026 American Music Awards, marking an eventful evening for the Latin music superstar at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Monday, May 25.
The 35-year-old kicked off her night with a live performance of "Ivonny Bonita," a track from her album Tropicoqueta. She then received the International Artist Award of Excellence, a prestigious honor bestowed upon artists whose reach and cultural resonance transcend international borders. The award is presented selectively to only the most deserving recipients.
The list of prior recipients reads as a who's who of music history, including Michael Jackson (1993), Rod Stewart (1994), Led Zeppelin (1995), Bee Gees (1997), Aerosmith (2001), Beyoncé (2007), and Whitney Houston (2009).
Upon accepting the accolade, Karol G reflected on her journey. "I want to say, more than anything, this career has given me the most important thing in my life: purpose," she said. "I can say things in my songs that become a voice for a lot of people, a healing place, a safe place. I think my life is meaningful because of my music."
The evening held another surprise in store. Karol G was presented with the Best Latin Album award for Tropicoqueta, with John Legend delivering the honor. The unexpected win prompted an emotional reaction—she dropped to the floor in genuine shock.
Queen Latifah returned to host the AMAs for the first time in over three decades. The ceremony aired live on CBS, with Taylor Swift leading the nominations with eight nods across various categories.
