Kat Graham Removed from Michael Jackson Biopic Due to Legal Considerations

April 22, 2026

Kat Graham will not appear in the Michael Jackson biopic arriving in theaters tomorrow, with the actress explaining that unforeseen legal matters prompted the removal of her footage from the final product.

The film features Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson's nephew, in the lead role as the King of Pop. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the project chronicles Michael Jackson's life and career trajectory, from his early years as the Jackson Five's frontman through his evolution into a global entertainment icon, showcasing both his personal journey and landmark performances from his solo era.

Graham had been cast to play Diana Ross in the production and announced the role publicly in 2024 via Instagram, expressing her enthusiasm for the project. "Grateful to play the legendary Diana Ross… directed by the great @AntoineFuqua. I can't wait for everyone to see this film and the brilliant performances in it. Thank you Graham King, Vickie Thomas and Mr. Fuqua for allowing me the privilege of supporting the retelling of such a pivotal era in our music history," she wrote at the time.

On Thursday ahead of the film's Friday release, Graham took to X to disclose that her scenes had been excised. "Ahead of the April 24 release of the Michael Jackson film, I want to share that certain legal considerations affected a few scenes, including the ones I filmed with an incredible cast. Unfortunately, those moments are no longer part of the final cut, though the team worked hard to preserve as much of the story as possible," she posted.

The removal marks the latest development in a production that faced previous hurdles. Over a year ago, reports emerged that legal complications had resulted in delays to the film's theatrical debut.
