Kate Beckinsale Joins Two Horror Films: Zombie Epic 'Twilight of the Dead' and Shark Thriller 'White'

Kate Beckinsale is diving into the horror genre with two new projects in the works.

The 52-year-old Underworld actress has joined the highly anticipated "final chapter" of George A. Romero's zombie franchise Twilight of the Dead, as well as the shark attack thriller White.

Milla Jovovich was initially set for Twilight of the Dead, but the project has undergone significant changes, including a new directorial team, updated cast, and fresh financing. The Romero estate has also given its approval to the endeavor.

Set in a "decimated earth where the last vestiges of humanity are trapped between warring factions and an evolving undead threat," the film marks a return to Romero's iconic zombie universe. The last installment released was 2009's Survival of the Dead, which was also Romero's final directorial effort before his death in 2017. A separate project called Road of the Dead has been stuck in development since 2020.

The Paz Brothers, known for the found-footage horror film Jeruzalem and Plan A, are set to direct the zombie feature.

In White, Beckinsale joins Katherine McNamara under the direction of Jake West. Dan Schaffer penned the script, and Beckinsale will also serve as an executive producer on the film.

The thriller centers on Willa Harba, a struggling actress pursuing her breakthrough role who is traveling overseas for a film shoot with a famous star. When their private jet crashes into the Pacific, Willa finds herself as the sole survivor, stranded on a fractured wing with nothing but ocean surrounding her. A satellite phone recovered from the wreck becomes her only means of calling for help, but when she reaches out, her demanding studio boss Barbara—played by Beckinsale—dismisses her pleas.

The signal is instead intercepted by marine biologist Sam Swatek, portrayed by McNamara, who delivers alarming information: Willa has crashed into the White Shark Café, a notorious feeding ground for great white sharks.

Producers are currently searching to fill the role of Willa.
