Keira Knightley and Luke Thompson Set to Star in West End Adaptation of 'The Lives of Others'
Keira Knightley and Luke Thompson are teaming up for a theatrical venture. The 41-year-old actress and the 37-year-old Bridgerton actor have been cast to headline a stage adaptation of the 2006 Oscar-winning film The Lives of Others, with Stephen Dillane rounding out the principal cast.
Helming the production is director Robert Icke, who collaborated with the original film's writer and director Florian Henckle von Donnersmarck during its development. The play will premiere on October 14th at the Adelphi Theatre, with performances continuing through January 9, 2027.
The adaptation centers on playwright Georg Dreyman, portrayed by Thompson, his actress-girlfriend Christa-Maria Sieland, played by Knightley, and Gerd Wiesler, a Stasi interrogator played by Dillane, who is tasked with surveilling the couple's apartment in what the production describes as "a potent tale about" the trio's intersecting lives.
For Knightley, this marks a significant return to the stage after more than a decade away. Her last Broadway appearance came in 2015, when she performed in the Roundabout Theatre Company's production of Thérèse Raquin. Thompson most recently took the stage in 2024 with a production of Love's Labour's Lost at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Dillane's last stage performance was in 2019's When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other.
Knightley is also set to appear in an upcoming dark comedy film that was announced earlier this year.
