Kevin McKidd Opens Up About Arthur Weasley Casting Buzz and His Harry Potter History

Kevin McKidd is weighing in on the casting chatter that's been making the rounds on social media.
Following his departure from Grey's Anatomy, the 52-year-old actor has become the subject of speculation about a potential role as Arthur Weasley in HBO's forthcoming Harry Potter adaptation. The buzz intensified when fans noticed that Gracie Cochrane, who's set to portray Ginny Weasley in the series, began following McKidd on Instagram.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, McKidd addressed the speculation head-on. "I saw something about this. And listen, I would never say never," he said. "I'm a massive Harry Potter fan."
The actor then shared an intriguing detail about his past connection to the franchise. Before landing his long-running role on Grey's Anatomy, McKidd was starring in a series called Journeyman, which was in limbo awaiting renewal. During that uncertain period, director David Yates reached out with an offer to appear in the final two Harry Potter films—Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2. Contract obligations tied to Journeyman's potential pickup prevented him from accepting.
"So I missed out on that chance of being in the final two Harry Potter films back in the day, which still makes me sad," McKidd reflected.
He revealed the character would have been a werewolf, a role ultimately filled by Dave Legeno. "The idea of getting another crack at that, because I was asked to be in it once, already gets me very excited," McKidd explained. "So listen, if those rumors can turn into something real, I would be very happy about that."
HBO's Harry Potter series is set to premiere on Christmas Day, marking the beginning of a new era for the beloved wizarding world.
