King Charles and Queen Camilla's U.S. Visit Hangs in Balance Following White House Correspondents' Dinner Incident

April 25, 2026

The upcoming U.S. visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla is now in question following a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday, April 25, in Washington, D.C.

The 77-year-old king and 78-year-old queen had been scheduled to travel stateside on Monday, April 27, for a four-day engagement centered around the 250th anniversary of American independence from the United Kingdom, according to the U.K. foreign office.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson released a statement addressing the incident: "His Majesty is being kept fully informed of developments and is greatly relieved to hear that the President, First Lady and all guests have been unharmed."

The palace added that officials would be holding multiple discussions throughout the day with their American counterparts to evaluate how Saturday evening's events might affect the trip's operational arrangements.

Beyond the official statement, Charles and Camilla made private contact with Donald Trump and Melania Trump in the wake of the shooting, according to reports.
