Kodak Black Arrested on MDMA Trafficking Charge in Florida

Kodak Black has been taken into custody on drug trafficking allegations in Florida.

The 28-year-old artist behind "Just Getting Started" was arrested on Wednesday, May 6, on suspicion of trafficking MDMA. He was booked into the Orange County Corrections Department.

According to an arrest affidavit, Orlando Police Department officers discovered a pink bag containing MDMA and $37,000 during a vehicle search that took place in November. The bag also held multiple documents bearing the name Bill Kapri—Kodak Black's legal name. Investigators noted that a gun-shaped lighter found in the bag appeared to match items the rapper had shared on his Instagram account. The MDMA seized weighed 25.34 grams, surpassing the 14-gram threshold that qualifies as a trafficking amount under Florida law.

Police allege that documents and items recovered from the vehicle matched photos posted on Kodak's social media. They also reported finding an unclaimed firearm in the backseat of the car. According to authorities, Kodak allegedly attempted to persuade police to return the money discovered in the bag.

The arrest was coordinated as a voluntary surrender linked to charges stemming from the November search, according to Kodak's attorney Bradford Cohen. That initial search occurred in a vehicle with a passenger who was not Kodak, where officers found a bag containing prescription cough syrup bearing what they claimed were his fingerprints.

Cohen stated that his legal team intends to contest the trafficking charge, characterizing it as lacking "weak legal basis." He added: "We look forward to yet another fruitful resolution to another case that should have never been filed."

Kodak Black has faced multiple arrests throughout his career. He was arrested in 2023 on drug possession charges in Florida, charged with felony drug offenses in 2022, and arrested on weapons charges in 2019.
