Kylie Jenner Reflects on Pre-Fame Childhood and the Impact of Early Stardom

Kylie Jenner recently sat down to discuss her life before becoming a household name, reflecting on the early days of her family's rise to prominence.

During an appearance on Jake Shane's Therapuss podcast on Wednesday (May 13), the 28-year-old makeup mogul was asked to recall what her childhood was like prior to cameras rolling for Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Jenner was nine years old when production began on the show, which ran on E! from 2007 until 2021.

"I do remember, but there aren't tons of memories," she said. "They showed up one day at the house and made it all feel very ordinary. So it seemed pretty natural to me."

She spoke fondly of the earlier seasons, describing how the experience created lasting bonds within her family. "The early years were really special and packed with moments I'll never forget," she explained. "I think the show genuinely brought us closer together. It continues to do that now. We're actually getting together this Sunday for a movie night at my mom's place—no cameras, just us. But with everyone's schedules, kids, and careers, filming really serves as something that keeps us connected and working as a unit."

Jenner emphasized that those early years hold particular significance in her memory. "The beginning was truly the best," she said.

The conversation also turned to the challenges of growing up in the spotlight at such a formative age. Jenner noted that the intensity of her fame wasn't always apparent to her as a young person navigating it in real time. "When you're living through it as a kid, you don't fully grasp what's going on," she noted, adding that her sister Kendall often brings up how their experiences at the time seemed normal to them then.

"Looking back as an adult, you realize, 'Wait, we were just kids,' and we didn't comprehend how extreme things actually were," Jenner continued. "We were simply working and doing what we thought was ordinary."

She and Kendall frequently exchange old photos and memories from those years, often expressing disbelief at what they accomplished and experienced while so young. "We'll send each other pictures and be like, 'Did we really do that?'" she said.

Among her most striking recollections is a trip to Australia during her early teen years. "That was absolutely wild," she recalled. "I've never witnessed that many people or fans in one place in my entire life."
