Lainey Wilson Opens Up About Reba McEntire's Guidance Through Her Rise to Fame

April 19, 2026

The Yellowstone star has been candid about her journey to the top in her latest Netflix documentary, Lainey Wilson: Keepin' Country Cool, touching on the emotional toll that comes with rapid success in the music industry.

At 33, Wilson opened up about the anxiety and depression she's battled while adjusting to her newfound prominence. During filming, she sought wisdom from country music legend Reba McEntire, asking her how she pushed through moments of doubt.

"I said, 'This is a loaded question, but what do you do when you feel like you can't go any further?' And she said, 'I do it for somebody else,'" Wilson recalled the exchange.

That counsel proved transformative for the artist. "And that right there has put so much in perspective for me," she explained. "I get on that stage and I do it for other people."

Wilson has been forthright about the internal struggles accompanying her career breakthrough, including wrestling with self-worth tied to her professional achievements. She detailed the relentless pressure she placed on herself to deliver flawless performances and maintain a polished image.

"I was putting so much pressure on myself to get it right, to be right, to be perfect, to show up, sing the damn song, look good doing it," the artist shared in the documentary.

A shift in perspective helped ease that burden. Once Wilson accepted that perfection was neither possible nor necessary—that a missed note or an off day wouldn't derail her—the weight lifted considerably.

"I think just knowing that I found my place and I ain't going anywhere… I feel like now that I've, like, put my stake in the ground, it definitely takes some stress off," she said.
