Laura Linney to Make Broadway Return in Spring 2027 with David Hare's 'Montauk'
Laura Linney is set to return to Broadway next spring. The acclaimed actor, a four-time Emmy Award winner and five-time Tony Award nominee, will lead the world premiere of David Hare's Montauk, with Daniel Sullivan directing, according to an announcement from Manhattan Theatre Club.
The production will open at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in spring 2027. Beyond this starring role, Linney has been appointed as the Manhattan Theatre Club's inaugural Artist-in-Residence—a position that underscores her deep ties to the institution spanning 35 years.
"I could not be more proud to be Manhattan Theatre Club's first Artist-in-Residence," the 62-year-old said in a statement. "MTC has been my theatrical home for decades, and I feel very honored indeed to kick off this new position."
As Artist-in-Residence, Linney will develop new theatrical projects while also engaging in community outreach and educational initiatives with the company. Her history with MTC includes notable productions such as The Little Foxes, My Name is Lucy Barton, and Summer, 1976.
MTC Artistic Director Nicki Hunter praised the collaboration. "Laura Linney is one of the most versatile actors of our time," Hunter said. "Her artistry, intelligence, and generosity make her the ideal partner for this brand-new initiative for MTC. We are thrilled to welcome her in this expanded capacity, cementing a commitment to working together in the future, and to collaborate on David Hare's Montauk, directed by Daniel Sullivan. We're proud to be giving this play its world premiere on Broadway."
