Law Roach Clarifies the Viral Louis Vuitton Moment, Reflects on His Status as a Global Style Icon

Law Roach is finally addressing the internet's interpretation of his appearance at the Louis Vuitton fashion presentation in Paris during March 2023, when he accompanied his longtime client Zendaya to the event.

The moment that captured widespread attention involved some confusion about seating arrangements once they arrived at the show. The video sparked considerable online debate and eventually contributed to speculation when Roach announced his retirement from styling shortly thereafter.

In a recent appearance on SiriusXM's Bevelations, Roach explained how the situation was misread by viewers. "The internet has a way of contorting things," he said. "It wasn't that I didn't have a front-row seat. They just—we came in, they rushed her to the seat as they should. She's an ambassador. She's the face of the brand. They just didn't know where my seat was, and they told me to sit behind her and it wasn't that that was the thing. It was like, the seat behind her was her assistant's seat, so if you sit me behind her, where would he sit? And that's not the way we roll, right? He's always behind her. I had another seat on the front row down a bit, right? So, it was just a misunderstanding. It had nothing to do with that."

Roach also tackled criticism suggesting he was overstepping his role as a stylist by prioritizing his own positioning. "The thing about the talent thing is that I am the Zendaya of my industry," he explained. "You know, like when it comes to my job, I am that. I am—respectfully, I am the most famous stylist in the world. I am probably one of the only, if not the only stylist that I can go globally and people recognize me and all those things. But I worked for that."

He continued with a comparison to another legendary figure: "So when they say, 'He's not the talent,' but I am. I am, at this point, I am a household name. I am the Serena Williams of styling. It just is what it is, respectfully."

Roach emphasized that his prominence in the industry has allowed him to create opportunities for others. "There is only one me, right? And because of me, I've been able to open doors for so many other people who look like me, who hopefully can get, if they choose, to this level of success, right? So, it is what it is."
