Broadway Stars Shine at MisCast Gala Ahead of Tony Awards Season

April 27, 2026

As the theater community counts down to next week's Tony Awards nominations announcement, Broadway's brightest assembled for a special evening of entertainment.

The MisCast gala took place Monday, April 27, at Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, drawing a roster of stage talent for a unique showcase. The concept centers on performers stepping into songs typically associated with characters they'd never be cast to play—a playful twist on traditional musical theater casting.

Among the evening's headliners were three actresses vying for recognition in the Best Actress in a Musical category: Lea Michele from Chess, Caissie Levy of Ragtime, and Jessica Vosk, who stars in Beaches. Michele performed a selection from Man of La Mancha, Levy tackled a number from Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Vosk sang material from Rent.

The event drew an extensive lineup of Broadway personalities. Nicholas Christopher, Michele's Chess castmate, attended alongside Brandon Uranowitz from Ragtime. The Lost Boys brought LJ Benet, Ali Louis Bourzgui, and Maria Wirries. Schmigadoon represented with Alex Brightman, Sara Chase, Ana Gasteyer, Max Clayton, and Maulik Pancholy. Additional attendees included Sam Tutty, Adrien Brody, Jane Krakowski, Don Cheadle, Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Patrick Wilson, and Ruthie Ann Miles.

The one-night-only celebration benefited MCC Theater, a leading nonprofit organization in the theater community.
