Lea Michele Laughs Off Sardi's Caricature That Fans Say Resembles Idina Menzel

April 20, 2026

Lea Michele is taking the viral buzz around her Sardi's portrait in stride. The Broadway performer was recently honored with a caricature at the legendary restaurant, and the artwork quickly caught the attention of social media users who felt the resemblance leaned more toward Idina Menzel than the actress herself.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday evening (April 20) in New York City, Michele addressed the portrait alongside her Chess co-stars Nicholas Christopher and Aaron Tveit.

"It's a real Broadway tradition," Michele explained, noting her long history with the establishment. She's been visiting Sardi's for 31 years, ever since her Broadway debut at age eight.

When host Seth Meyers inquired whether she was pleased with the finished portrait, Michele responded with humor. "You know, it's a little me, it's a little Idina, it's a little bit of both. But she did play my mother on Glee, so we are, you know, related in some way, but it's great," she said.

Meyers also asked Tveit about his own portrait unveiling, though the actor's response suggested less enthusiasm about the final result.
