Lin-Manuel Miranda Announces Broadway Debut of 'Warriors,' Spring 2027

Lin-Manuel Miranda is heading back to Broadway with an ambitious new project. The Tony-winning creator has unveiled plans to premiere Warriors, an original musical he developed with Eisa Davis, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in spring 2027.

This marks Miranda's first original stage musical since Hamilton, the cultural phenomenon that continues to draw audiences after a decade on Broadway. Warriors represents a fresh creative venture for the acclaimed artist, who wrote the book, music, and lyrics alongside Davis.

The musical draws inspiration from the 1979 film The Warriors but takes the story in a new direction. Rather than following the male-dominated gang narrative of the original movie, this Broadway adaptation centers on a female gang navigating New York City. The plot follows these characters from Coney Island through the Bronx as they become entangled in a murder investigation involving a prominent gang leader named Cyrus.

"With Warriors, we take a fateful journey through New York City full of heart and grit as our characters fight to survive," Miranda and Davis shared in a statement. "Musicalizing such a vibrant world for the concept album has been a thrill, and now we're coming out to play on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne. We can't wait."

The production will launch preview performances in March 2027, with the official opening scheduled for April 2027. The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre currently houses the musical Death Becomes Her.

Casting details have not yet been revealed. However, fans have already gotten a preview of the score through a star-studded concept album released in 2024, which introduced the musical's distinctive sound ahead of the Broadway premiere.
