Maya Rudolph Steps Into Broadway With 'Oh, Mary!' Debut Tonight
Maya Rudolph is stepping onto Broadway tonight, marking her stage debut in the darkly comedic play Oh, Mary! The production has unveiled fresh images showcasing the acclaimed performer in her role as Mary Todd Lincoln.
The one-act play presents a fictional portrait of Lincoln's wife during the turbulent weeks before the president's assassination. The story centers on her inner turmoil, exploring themes of longing, addiction, and hidden yearnings while reimagining the largely overlooked personal world of the historical figure through an unconventional comedic lens.
Rudolph's engagement with the production runs from April 28 through June 20. She shares the stage with fellow cast members Phillip James Brannon, who returns to play Mary's Husband, and Cheyenne Jackson, reprising his role as Mary's Teacher. Rounding out the ensemble are original cast members Bianca Leigh as Mary's Chaperone and Tony Macht as Mary's Husband's Assistant.
The show has already achieved significant commercial and critical success. It earned two Tony Awards and has shattered its own box office records on 12 separate occasions. Oh, Mary! became the first production of the 2024-25 Broadway season to recoup its initial investment. Following this run, the production is gearing up for a North American tour.
Tickets are available for those interested in catching the production during Rudolph's limited time in the role.
