Meg Stalter, the breakout talent from HBO's Hacks, is stepping onto Broadway for the first time, taking on the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Cole Escola's acclaimed play Oh, Mary!

The limited engagement will run from July 6 through September 12, 2026. Stalter will be taking over the part after Maya Rudolph, who is currently performing in the role and will exit the production on July 5.

Stalter expressed her enthusiasm about joining the production in a statement, describing her connection to both the playwright and the character. She noted that upon meeting Escola, the playwright remarked about feeling unexpectedly excited to have made a new friend—a sentiment Stalter echoed. She emphasized finding herself deeply reflected in Mary Todd Lincoln, calling the experience of encountering the character through Escola's writing both thrilling and affirming. Stalter also referenced her and Escola's public breakup in 2018, expressing gratitude to the playwright for bringing her dreams to fruition.

Oh, Mary! is a one-act dark comedy that explores the life of Mary Todd Lincoln during the weeks preceding Abraham Lincoln's assassination. The play delves into themes of yearning, alcoholism, and suppressed desires, presenting a fresh examination of the historical figure's overlooked personal world and unfulfilled ambitions.
