Melania Trump Reflects on Barron's Special Connection with Her Late Mother

Melania Trump has shared rare details about her son Barron's relationship with her mother, Amalija Knavs, in a recent written interview.

The 56-year-old first lady, who gave birth to Barron in 2006, discussed the close connection between her only son and her mother while speaking with USA Today. As the youngest of Donald Trump's five children—and historically the most private—Barron's personal relationships have drawn curiosity over the years.

Melania described the bond between Barron and her mother as "distinct" and deeply rooted in their shared heritage. She explained that Knavs played an important role in fostering his connection to Slovenia through traditional cooking, storytelling, and their conversations in the Slovenian language.

"Both speaking the same language allowed them to communicate deeply and meaningfully," Melania stated.

Knavs passed away in 2024 at age 78. Reflecting on her mother's influence, Melania remembered her as "the epitome of love and warmth" and described her role in Barron's life with affection.

"For Barron, she was a grandmother who filled every moment with joy and wisdom," Melania wrote. "Every story she read to Barron sparked his imagination, and every game they played strengthened their bond. Her delicious meals were more than just food; they were a celebration of togetherness."

The first lady painted a vivid picture of their time together, recalling moments when Barron and his grandmother would cuddle, play games, and read books. "I would often hear their laughter and personally felt their joy, knowing they were creating unforgettable memories together. Their connection was so magical. And I loved watching it," she added.

In a separate televised interview on Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson, Donald Trump addressed whether he thought Barron might pursue a political career. "Well maybe," he responded when asked about his 20-year-old son's potential path. Trump noted that Barron is "certainly a popular guy," though he emphasized having multiple family members who enjoy similar status. "I have good kids. They're very good kids," he said.
