Meryl Streep Opens Up About Devil Wears Prada 3 and Fashion Show Filming Experience

April 20, 2026

The cast of The Devil Wears Prada 2 made the rounds in New York on Monday, April 20, stopping by SiriusXM Studios for an interview with Andy Cohen. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt discussed the film's production, future projects, and their experiences bringing the beloved fashion industry saga back to the screen.

When the conversation turned to whether audiences might see a third installment, the cast expressed openness to the idea. Stanley Tucci stated, "Well I hope so," while Streep indicated she'd be game for it, noting she's equally interested in revisiting the Mamma Mia franchise.

The three-time Academy Award winner was less enthusiastic about another potential project—a memoir. She dismissed the concept as "too boring," keeping her focus instead on her acting work.

One of the most distinctive aspects of The Devil Wears Prada 2's production was filming scenes at actual fashion shows, a first-time experience for Streep. She described the environment as surprisingly theatrical and found particular advantage in wearing sunglasses as part of her Miranda Priestly wardrobe. "Nobody knew where I was looking. That was so good. Now I know why she does that," she explained, referencing her recent collaboration with Vogue editor Anna Wintour on a magazine cover.

When discussing her work with Wintour, Streep praised the legendary editor warmly. "She's a really—she's so smart and funny and forgiving and understanding," she said.

The group also reflected on the original film's production. Emily Blunt admitted to feeling intimidated by Streep early on, describing her as deeply immersed in character. "Aloof, let's say. Not impenetrable, but we could come up and tell you a funny story, but you wouldn't do your extraordinary laugh that I normally heard," Blunt recalled.

Streep clarified that her reserved demeanor wasn't purely about method acting. Rather, she maintained deliberate distance from her castmates to establish the power dynamic necessary for her role. She explained that authority figures need to maintain a certain barrier, citing conversations with director Greta Gerwig who employs similar techniques. Streep noted that she would retreat to her trailer while hearing the rest of the cast enjoying themselves elsewhere on set, reinforcing the hierarchical separation. "It was lonely at the top," she acknowledged.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives in theaters May 1.
