Two celebrity offspring graced the red carpet at the 2026 Met Gala, marking a notable exception to the prestigious event's long-standing age restrictions.

Blue Ivy Carter, 14, and Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban, 17, both secured invitations to the gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 4. Their attendance was made possible through a special allowance granted to children of the event's co-chairs.

Blue Ivy arrived alongside her parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z. She wore a Balenciaga design, while her mother donned a custom Olivier Rousteing creation and her father stepped out in Louis Vuitton.

Sunday attended with her mother Nicole Kidman, who served as a co-chair alongside Beyoncé. The teenager wore Dior, complementing her mother's Chanel ensemble. Sunday's father, country music artist Keith Urban, did not attend the event.

Understanding the Age Restriction

The Met Gala implemented strict age guidelines a decade ago. The policy began in 2018 after new rules were established following an incident involving celebrities smoking in the bathroom. The restriction gained public attention when Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler revealed she had been denied entry that year at just 15 years old.

About This Year's Gala

The 2026 Met Gala celebrated the museum's Costume Art exhibition, which examines "the centrality of the dressed body" through various artistic interpretations of the human form from the Met's collection. The evening's dress code theme was "Fashion is Art."

Four individuals served as co-chairs for the event: Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, tennis champion Venus Williams, and former Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. The gala drew hundreds of A-list celebrities to what remains fashion's most anticipated annual gathering.
