Michael Porter Jr. is setting the record straight following his ex-girlfriend Madison Pettis's characterization of him as a "psychopath."

The 27-year-old Brooklyn Nets forward appeared on the Monday, May 4 episode of the One Night with Steiny podcast, where he addressed their brief romance and Pettis's recent comments about him.

"I wasn't feeling that at all because, bro, we dated for what, three months, and nothing happened. Crazy," Porter Jr. recalled during the episode.

The two dated years ago when Pettis, also 27, was starring on the Disney Channel spinoff Cory in the House and Porter Jr. was playing college basketball. According to the athlete, they met through Stephen Curry and initially connected via direct messages.

In March 2026, Pettis made the "psychopath" comment while appearing on the Your Dreams With Owen Thiele podcast. "I mean, my ex is now in the NBA. When we dated, he was in high school and college. I broke up with him before he was in the league because he was a psychopath," she stated at the time. She went on to discuss athletes as romantic partners more broadly, noting that while many aren't ideal partners, she wouldn't dismiss them entirely due to her respect for their professional pursuits.

Porter Jr. expressed frustration with Pettis revisiting the topic a decade later. "I don't know why 10 years later she's getting on a podcast talking about, 'He's a psychopath.' She's scaring all the jawns away," he said.
