Michelle Buteau Weighs In on 'The Circle' Relocating to Hulu, Confirms She Won't Be Hosting

Michelle Buteau has addressed the announcement that her long-running reality competition series is heading to a new network.

The 48-year-old comedian hosted all seven seasons of The Circle on Netflix between 2020 and 2024, steering the show through its entire run on the platform before it took a hiatus.

Hulu has now secured the rights to the series, which will undergo a significant refresh. The revamped version will blend civilian competitors with celebrity contestants and introduce audience voting to the U.S. adaptation for the first time. The show will be reimagined as a "fast-turnaround" social experiment that operates in real time.

The new iteration will place everyday players and celebrities in competition within a game centered on popularity, where participants can adopt any identity they choose. Contestants will occupy separate apartments in the same building while remaining isolated from one another, with communication restricted to a dedicated app featuring text and photo exchanges.

During an appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live on Sunday, June 21, Buteau shared her perspective on the move. "I'm glad that The Circle found a new home, because it's a great show," she explained. "I hosted the U.S. version, the longest-running version for seven seasons, and I put my foot in it, my back, my back fat, my right titty, I put all the stuff in it. But, they're not going to go through with me being the host and so I say, good luck, bless up, I hope you have fun putting a square in the circle."

The comedian's remarks make clear that while she's supportive of the show's continuation, she will not be part of the Hulu chapter.
