Michelle Buteau Makes Surprise Appearance at NYC Pride Drag Brunch Hosted by 'Survival of the Thickest' Co-Star Peppermint

Michelle Buteau pulled off an unexpected appearance at NYC Pride's "It's Giving Brunch" Drag Brunch on Saturday, June 20, at Manhattan's Stella 34 Trattoria, delighting both fans and her Netflix co-star Peppermint.

The star of Survival of the Thickest, who also serves as creator, writer, and executive producer on the show, showed up to the festivities unannounced. While there, she participated in judging a walk-off competition featuring brunch attendees.

Peppermint co-hosted the event alongside Olivia Lux, a fellow alum of RuPaul's Drag Race. The brunch lineup also featured performers Mo'Riah, ShowPonii, and Egypt.

Looking ahead, Peppermint has another major Pride commitment on the calendar. She'll take on the role of Grand Marshal at the NYC Pride March on Sunday, June 28, sharing the honor with Bowen Yang, Dominique Jackson, broadcaster Bernie Wagenblast, and the activist organization Gays Against Guns.

Buteau's surprise visit to the drag brunch arrives as anticipation builds for the third and final season of Survival of the Thickest. The comedy-drama series draws inspiration from Buteau's essay collection of the same name and follows Mavis Beaumont, a Black, plus-size stylist and designer navigating love, career growth, and self-acceptance with the help of her chosen family and an unapologetically body-positive outlook.

Season three touches down on Netflix July 2nd, bringing with it an impressive roster of guest stars including Garcelle Beauvais, Wanda Sykes, DL Hughley, Ashley Graham, Ronny Chieng, Jenna Lyons, and Ice-T, among others.
