The CBS comedy wrapped its second season with a major development that left Georgie reeling. The finale introduced a romantic connection between Mary, Georgie's widowed mother, and Fred Fagenbacher—a character played by Matt Letscher who serves as both Georgie's business competitor and the former high school sweetheart of Mandy's mom Audrey. The episode ends with Georgie storming out after his mother refuses to abandon the relationship.

Montana Jordan, who portrays Georgie, revealed he didn't anticipate this pairing. In discussing the character's emotional conflict, he explained that while Georgie's deep affection for his late father will always remain, he struggles to accept any romantic interest in his mother's life. Jordan noted that this is particularly complicated given that Mary is also grieving and processing her own complicated feelings toward George Sr., as revealed during the final season of Young Sheldon.

Looking toward season three, Jordan suggested that Georgie's suspicions about Fred's intentions may be warranted. He pointed out the timing seems suspicious, noting that Fred's sudden interest in Bible study with Mary comes after years of pursuing Georgie in business. "I'm excited to see how Season 3 goes — whether George is going to accept this, or if he's going to continue putting his foot down," Jordan shared.

The actor also hinted at potential escalation, playfully teasing that viewers will need to discover whether Georgie will ultimately accept the situation or take more drastic measures.

Series creator and showrunner Steve Holland is equally intrigued by the dynamic between Georgie and Fred moving forward. Holland acknowledged the fraught history between the two men, referencing a past incident when Georgie broke into Fred's lot and damaged his tow trucks. He suggested that while both parties bear some responsibility for their rivalry, Fred may be the primary driver of their conflict.

Holland indicated that season three will explore whether genuine reconciliation is possible between the rivals, particularly if Fred's feelings for Mary are authentic. The creative team is also considering how this development might affect their ongoing business competition and Mary's financial stake in Georgie's venture—all elements that could fuel compelling storylines ahead.
