Mortal Kombat II is making a formidable impression at the box office during its debut weekend.

The video game adaptation brought in $40 million domestically, complemented by $23 million in international markets for a combined opening weekend total of $63 million. This performance surpassed early expectations, which had pegged the film for a $35 to $40 million domestic launch. The figures come despite the film not yet rolling out in all major territories.

The sequel follows the 2021 original, which debuted simultaneously on HBO Max and in theaters during the pandemic, ultimately grossing $84.4 million worldwide.
