Jamie Lee Curtis 'Murder, She Wrote' Film Moves to February 2028

April 22, 2026

The long-gestating Murder, She Wrote movie is getting a new date at the box office.

Universal Pictures has shifted the Jamie Lee Curtis vehicle from its original December 22, 2027 slot to February 4, 2028, according to Variety. The studio offered no official explanation for the move, though the timing suggests strategic positioning away from three heavyweight contenders arriving December 17, 2027: Avengers: Secret Wars, The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum, and The Housemaid's Secret.

Curtis will take on the iconic role of Jessica Fletcher, originally portrayed by Angela Lansbury in the beloved crime series that aired for 12 seasons between 1984 and 1996. Lansbury passed away in 2022 at age 96.

Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore is steering the project, with screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo—known for their work on Dumb Money—crafting the script. Details about the film's plot remain under wraps.

The movie has been in development for years, with the first public indication of the project surfacing in 2023. Curtis spoke about the progress last summer, saying, "Oh, it's … happening. We're a minute away. But yeah, very excited. Very excited."

The original series is currently available for streaming on Peacock.
