NASCAR driver Kyle Busch finds himself sidelined this weekend due to a serious health matter. The 41-year-old will not be taking part in any of his scheduled races at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Busch's family announced the news through a statement shared on his social media channels, noting that he is currently hospitalized and receiving medical treatment. "Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization. He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway," the family's message read. They asked for compassion and privacy as they work through the situation but did not specify details about his condition.
Richard Childress Racing, the team Busch drives for, also issued a statement expressing their support. "Kyle Busch's health is our upmost priority and he and his family have the full resources of RCR behind them. Kyle is an integral part of our organization and we wish him a safe and speedy recovery," the organization said. "His No. 8 Chevrolet will be ready and waiting for him."
The team confirmed that Austin Hill will take over driving duties in the No. 8 Chevrolet for the weekend events. RCR also requested that the public respect the family's need for privacy during this period.
Busch's last racing appearance came on May 15. The racing community and fans are hoping for his swift recovery.
