NBC Greenlights Four New Series for 2026-27 Season, From 'Rockford Files' Reboot to 'Line of Fire'

NBC is moving forward with four new scripted series for its 2026-27 television lineup, drawn from a slate of eight pilots that shot entirely in the United States this year.

The network developed five drama pilots and three comedy pilots, ultimately selecting two dramas and two comedies for series orders. The decision comes as a notable shift, given that most productions have been filming overseas in recent years. Three of the eight pilots were shot on the Universal lot in Los Angeles.

The four series heading to NBC's schedule are:

The Rockford Files

David Boreanaz leads this reimagining of the classic series, joined by Michaela McManus, Felix Solis and Jacki Weaver. The story follows James Rockford, a newly paroled man who was imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. Returning to work as a private investigator in Los Angeles, Rockford relies on his charm and cunning to work cases—a path that quickly puts him at odds with both local law enforcement and criminal enterprises seeking to keep him in check.

Line of Fire

Peter Krause headlines this drama alongside Hope Davis, with Kat Cunning, Tommy O'Brien, Taylor Bloom and Charlie Barnett rounding out the cast. The series centers on a family of law enforcement professionals navigating competing loyalties as they work across the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service and Department of Justice. When a routine investigation unravels into a lethal conspiracy, the family must bend their professional codes to protect each other and track down those responsible.

Newlyweds

Tea Leoni and Tim Daly, a couple in real life, star in this comedy about a spontaneous marriage between a carefree woman and a rigid academic. Jamie Lee Curtis will appear in a recurring role throughout the season.

Sunset P.I.

Jake Johnson and Jane Levy lead this private detective series, with Langston Kerman, Mary Shalaby and Keith David in supporting roles. The show pays homage to the long tradition of Los Angeles-based private eye stories, from Philip Marlowe through contemporary iterations.
