Netflix Greenlights 'Forever' Season 2 Production in Los Angeles With Fresh Cast Additions

Production on Netflix's 'Forever' season two is officially underway in Los Angeles, the streamer announced on Friday, May 8. The romantic drama will continue its exploration of love and connection nearly a year after the show's renewal was confirmed.

Showrunner and creator Mara Brock Akil shared her vision for the upcoming season: "Season 2 of Forever is in production and we are home — back in Los Angeles, back inside a love story that keeps revealing itself. This time, through friendship. Because when you're standing at the edge of adulthood, staring into the abyss, it's your real ones you want to run back to. Every choice feels final, even though it's your first time being truly grown. We are thrilled to be back, diving deeper into love's most complicated question– is forever truly forever?"

The new season will explore whether exes can maintain a genuine friendship. Set four years after the events of season one, the story catches up with Justin and Keisha navigating post-pandemic life with new relationships and career aspirations—until a chance encounter in the summer of 2023 changes everything.

The core cast is returning for season two. Lovie Simone reprises her role as Keisha Clark, while Michael Cooper Jr returns as Justin Edwards. Supporting players Karen Pittman (Dawn Edwards), Wood Harris (Eric Edwards), and Xosha Roquemore (Shelly Clark) will also be back.

Several new faces are joining the cast for season two. Malaika Guttoh, known for her appearance in the Hallmark Christmas film 'Christmas Tree Lane,' has been cast as series regular Ameena. Avery Wills Jr, who has appeared in Apple TV's 'Swagger' and Netflix's 'Shooting Stars,' joins in a recurring guest role as Jaden. Tre McBride, who appeared in two episodes of 'Seal Team' season nine and the Lifetime film 'The Neighbor Who Saw Too Much,' will play recurring character Elijah.

The production has also assembled an impressive music team. Two-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Khris Riddick-Tynes joins as executive music producer. Riddick-Tynes secured the 2024 Grammy for Best R&B Song for SZA's "Snooze" and the 2026 Grammy for Best R&B Song for Kehlani's "Folded," with additional nominations in the same category in 2020 and 2025. Keir Lehman returns as Music Supervisor, with Until Tomorrow providing original music once again.

The eight-episode season marks the show's continuation as it deepens its examination of modern relationships and the complexities of growing up.
