Netflix Greenlights Live-Action 'Persona' Adaptation From Acclaimed Video Game Franchise

Netflix has entered into development on a live-action television series inspired by the Persona video game franchise, according to reports from Variety.

The streaming giant is adapting the long-running Atlus role-playing series, though specifics surrounding the narrative remain under lock and key at this stage. It remains unclear whether the show will draw from a particular installment—such as Persona 3, Persona 4, or Persona 5—or instead create an original storyline within the franchise's universe.

Christopher Monfette has been tapped to pen the script and helm the project as showrunner and executive producer. The writer-producer previously contributed to Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, and 9-1-1.

The production will see Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood executive produce via their banner 21 Laps, while Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson will executive produce through Story Kitchen. Sega's Toru Nakahara rounds out the executive producer roster.

Netflix has declined to offer any official statement regarding the development.

The announcement arrives during a particularly active period for the Persona brand. The franchise has solidified itself as a cornerstone of contemporary JRPGs, celebrated for its fusion of supernatural intrigue, polished turn-based gameplay, and emotionally resonant storytelling centered on young protagonists juggling school life with encounters in otherworldly realms.

The series continues its momentum through 2026, marked by the recent reveal of Persona 6 and the forthcoming Persona 4 Revival, slated to reintroduce the fourth mainline entry to audiences in 2027. Details regarding cast, premiere date, and production schedule have not yet been disclosed.
