Nick Cannon Explains Daughter Monroe's Viral Sibling Comments

Nick Cannon has set the record straight regarding his daughter Monroe's social media post that sparked widespread discussion online.

The 15-year-old, whom Cannon shares with Mariah Carey, took to Instagram Story in November 2025 to address her sibling situation. "Clearing something up guys! I only have ONE brother who is @moroccan.cannon," Monroe wrote at the time. "I do have other half siblings from my dad but they are all many many years younger than me!"

The post generated considerable attention, given that Cannon, 45, has 10 additional half-siblings from his other relationships.

During a recent interview on Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast, the Masked Singer host elaborated on what his daughter intended to convey. According to Cannon, Monroe was simply distinguishing between her twin brother Moroccan and her much younger half-siblings.

"So my daughter wanted to clear it up, and be like, 'I only have one brother,' like literally in her age group," Cannon explained. He noted that Monroe felt frustrated by how the internet interpreted her words.

"The world jumped in on some teenage gossip conversation and tried to turn it into something else," Cannon said. "And then that upset my daughter. So she was like, 'I didn't mean that. I said my dad has other kids.'"

The entertainment personality also shared the guidance he offered Monroe following the social media moment, emphasizing the importance of caution when posting publicly.

"I was like, 'Monroe, you don't have to explain yourself to anybody,'" Cannon recalled. "'But let this be a lesson that you got to be very careful what you say on social media. People will take something very small and blow it up into something that you don't have control over anymore.'"
