Ella Bright Opens Up About Her British Accent and American Roots

Ella Bright's authentic British accent on screen might lead viewers to assume she's British through and through, but the Off Campus actress has an interesting backstory behind her distinctive voice.

The rising star, who portrays Hannah Wells on the Prime Video series, was born in New York to parents from opposite sides of the United States—her father hails from Oklahoma while her mother is from California. Despite her American origins, Bright spent the majority of her formative years in London, which is where she picked up her now-signature accent.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 19-year-old explained her unique background. "It was kind of a back and forth until I think I was six years old. And then, yeah, we've been in London my whole life," she shared. She also noted that she has two British sisters, adding to her family's multicultural dynamic.

Currently, Bright continues to live with her family in the UK capital. The actress experienced her first taste of independent living while filming the inaugural season of Off Campus in Vancouver, Canada. Though she's considering making a permanent move away from her parents' household in the coming year, she's cherishing the time spent with them now.

"Between filming and school, I never really got a lot of time to be with my sisters and my parents and my dogs," Bright told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's been really a special moment for me."
