Olivia Wilde Opens Up About Being Served Custody Papers During Cinema-Con Presentation

Olivia Wilde has revisited one of Hollywood's most shocking public moments—the 2022 incident when she was served custody papers while presenting on stage at Cinema-Con.

During an appearance on Call Her Daddy, the director opened up about receiving the envelope marked "confidential" from her ex-partner Jason Sudeikis while in the middle of promoting her film Don't Worry Darling. Rather than breaking character, Wilde continued with her presentation, maintaining her composure in front of the audience.

"One of the most challenging things I went through was being served papers on stage," Wilde explained, describing the experience as "incredibly traumatizing." She elaborated on how she managed to get through it: "We're taught as women to push through the most unbelievable situations. You just finish your speech."

The moment quickly became public despite Wilde's initial belief that it had gone unnoticed. "I went backstage and completely fell apart," she said, adding that she'd assumed the no-phones-allowed policy at the event meant no one would find out. That assumption proved incorrect when the incident surfaced online.

When asked whether the timing seemed intentional, Wilde addressed the question directly. "Jason has told me he didn't know, and I need to believe that to move forward," she stated. She acknowledged that legal representatives can sometimes act inappropriately during contentious processes, but emphasized her belief that the situation was difficult for Sudeikis as well. "Whether or not he knew it was going to happen, I know it really hurt him to see it," she said.

In an unexpected gesture of support, Tom Cruise approached Wilde after the incident. "He came up to me and said, 'Hi, I'm Tom. That was really messed up what happened to you in Vegas,'" Wilde recalled.
