Patton Oswalt Honors Late Wife's Memory a Decade On, Wife Meredith Salenger Shares Compassionate Response
Patton Oswalt's recent social media post touching on loss and remembrance has drawn widespread attention this week.
The 57-year-old performer shared a photograph alongside his late wife Michelle McNamara, who died in 2016 at age 46. The couple had one daughter together, Alice. Oswalt's message on Threads was simple and heartfelt: "Ten years gone. Miss you, baby."
The post prompted reactions from followers, including observations about how his current spouse has handled the situation. One commenter wrote, "Your wife seems to be the most understanding spouse. I love that for all of you."
Oswalt replied directly to this remark, explaining that his current wife, Meredith Salenger, has played a significant role in his healing journey. "Meredith elevates empathy and has guided me and Alice back into the world. This is how she responded to one of my Instagram comments. I found love twice, and I'm thankful every day," he wrote, sharing a screenshot of Salenger's own response.
Salenger had commented on an earlier post where someone raised concerns about how difficult such tributes might be for a current spouse. Rather than confirming those worries, she offered her own perspective: "Not tough at all. My heart breaks that the two people I love the most lost the person they loved the most. That they ever endured that sadness that will never go away. My heart aches for them both."
Oswalt and Salenger announced their engagement in July 2017 and married that November.
