Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley Team Up Again for Bayou-Set Romance 'Hold On to Your Angels'

Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley are joining forces once more for their latest film project together.
The announcement came Thursday via Variety, revealing that the two actors will headline Hold On to Your Angels, an upcoming outlaw romance written and directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Benh Zeitlin.
The film is set in South Louisiana's bayou region and centers on a damned outlaw, played by Mescal, and a fierce protector of wayward souls, portrayed by Buckley, whose relationship becomes catastrophically intertwined as their deteriorating paradise threatens to consume them both.
"Hold On to Your Angels is the most impossible love story I've ever witnessed — an outlaw romance for the end of America, set on the crumbling edge of South Louisiana," Zeitlin said in a statement. "I've been dreaming of telling it since its hero, Pam Harper, walked into an audition for Beasts of the Southern Wild seventeen years ago. It's a love letter to an endangered way of life — and a rallying cry for empathy across a fractured planet."
This marks the third collaboration between Mescal, 30, and Buckley, 36. The pair previously appeared together in Chloe Zhao's Hamnet last year, which earned Buckley an Academy Award for Best Actress. They also worked alongside each other on Maggie Gyllenhaal's 2021 film The Lost Daughter.
Cameras are scheduled to roll beginning in February 2027.
