Prince Harry Rejects "Not a Working Royal" Label, Insists He Remains Part of Royal Family
Nearly six years after stepping away from active royal duties, Prince Harry is pushing back against suggestions that his status within the monarchy has fundamentally changed.
During a Friday visit to Ukraine on April 24, the 41-year-old Duke of Sussex sat down with ITV and directly addressed whether he accepts the description of himself as "not a working royal."
"No. I will always be part of the royal family," Harry responded emphatically.
He elaborated on his current role and mission, stating: "I am here working doing the things that I was born to do. And, you know, I enjoy doing it. I enjoy coming to do these trips and supporting that I've ever before, the friends that I've made, and hopefully, bringing attention to issues that, for one reason or another, drop out of the news because something else has popped up."
The prince emphasized his gratitude for maintaining access to the platform his royal heritage affords him, particularly when it comes to shining a spotlight on pressing matters such as the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine.
Harry and his wife Meghan Markle departed from their formal royal responsibilities in 2020 amid intense media pressure and tabloid coverage.
During a recent visit down under, Meghan, 44, spoke candidly about her experience, describing herself as having been "bullied and attacked" and noting that she holds the distinction of being "the most trolled person in the entire world."
